Case Study: MagicMail
MagicMail is a beautifully presented and slick website integrating a branded version of MailBuild. We chatted with iMagic's Managing Director Paul Fairbairn about why they decided to use MailBuild, and how they've made it work for them.
What gave you the idea to re-brand MailBuild?
"We stumbled across Mailbuild and thought... 'hang on a moment - why reinvent the wheel when some one has done all the hard work?'"
We were originally going to develop our own mail campaign tool so while researching other mail systems on the web we stumbled across Mailbuild and thought...hang on a moment - why reinvent the wheel when some one has done all the hard work. It was a pretty simple decision.
Mailbuild had all the features and more which our clients wanted plus all the support infrastructure you need to run a world-class email campaign system. No need to set up servers and monitor black lists.
The MagicMail site and site looks excellent, how did you come up with the concept and design?
We developed our first version of MagicMail 3 years ago. While it was a good product back then we seriously needed to upgrade it to deliver the features our clients wanted. The site is a progression of our old site. Re-skinning Mailbuild as our own product was incredibly simple and fast. You guys have obviously put a lot of thought and effort into providing great features for our clients and making it easy to use.
The idea with the videos was to quickly show possible clients how easy it is to create email campaigns with MagicMail. And to show the flexibility of features and how easy it is to view reports and access reader information. We kept the flash without audio as we know some of our clients don't have speakers on their computers.
How are you trying to attract new customers?
Most of our new clients come from the recommendations of other clients.
How are you promoting your email services to existing customers?
"We run regular emails to our customer base using MagicMail which helps show clients how it can be used (practice what you preach)"
MagicMail is another tool we have in our kit that makes it easy for us to service our clients marketing and advertising needs. It helps differentiate our company making us more multi-channel savvy. We tell all of our clients the importance of email marketing when we discuss their marketing needs. We also run our own regular emails to our customer base using MagicMail which helps show clients how it can be used (practice what you preach).
What have the results been - has it been an easy sell?
Its a no-brainer really. Adding Mailbuild to your tool kit of services makes you look like a smarter company. Its easy to set up and offer a new profit stream to your business.
Any advice for other designers considering reselling MailBuild?
I would simply say that Mailbuild is an outstanding product and you should definitely promote it to your clients. You shouldn't even think twice. Just start using it. Right now.

MailBuild is very easy to resell - there are so many good points to the service to pick up on, you could build a site around any one of them, but the most effective is it's simplicity.
